Fine Arts at HGBCS

HGBCS has a steadily expanding Fine Arts Department consisting of High School Band, Introduction to Drama and Advanced Drama, Chorus, and Art I, II, III/IV, and Crafts (Fiber Arts). Each of these classes trains students to build skills and develop their creative talents to use in service to the Lord. High school Band builds on the technique and skills taught in the lower grade bands to be able to perform intermediate and advanced compositions. In Chorus, students learn singing and performance techniques and they have opportunity to strengthen their voices singing individually and to harmoniously blend their voices in a choir. Through Intro to Drama, Art I, and Crafts, students learn the fundamental principles of that particular art form through experience, whether it be performing in a play or skit or by creating a painting or weaving. The advanced level Drama and Art courses build on the foundation laid in Intro to Drama and Art I and focus on technique. Art III/IV helps students to develop a solid portfolio to present to colleges, universities and art schools. All of the Art classes offer an Art History/Appreciation component, and some of the advanced art classes explore different careers in the art world.

All Fine Arts courses at HGBCS allow students to gain performance or exhibition experience. The Band students participate in two concerts each year. The Drama classes perform two plays each year in addition to skits in chapel and various speech competitions. Chorus offers many opportunities to perform in the community as well as singing in chapel and at games. They also compete in many competitions and travel on choir tour. The Arts and Crafts classes exhibit their work throughout the school year and compete in private and public art competitions.  We continue to explore new avenues to improve our growing Fine Arts Department.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
