April 16, 2010 Choir to Sing at Atlanta Braves Game
The High School Choir auditioned and has been confirmed to perform the National Anthem for an Atlanta Braves’ game at Turner Field on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. We hope several families will take this opportunity for a weekend getaway to Atlanta. It will be an excused absence. We are currently selling tickets to those who have their own transportation. Terrace Level seats are $39 and the Upper Box seats are $14. All checks should be made payable to HGBCS. Please contact vernaclark@hgbcs.org to purchase tickets or to inquire further.
Please place this on your calendar and plan to be part of this awesome opportunity for our Choir and our school! I wanted everyone to be aware that most of the high school will probably be in Atlanta and unable to aide or attend other events on that day.
Sincerely,
Verna Clark, director

Crystal Rhodes' childhood friend, Captain Brandy Brown, serves in the US Air Force and as a Chaplain in Iraq. Captain Brown grew up here at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. In November, Mrs. Barr’s 8th grade homeroom had a project where students brought in “goodies” for the soldiers. The response was overwhelming! We sent 40 large boxes of “goodies” to Captain Brown for the soldiers and they were received by Captain Brown in time for Christmas. We raised over $200.00 for the cost of shipping these boxes by having a “No Collar for a Dollar/No Tuck for a Buck” day in November. Crystal Rhodes coordinated and worked with some student volunteers to box up all the items, which was quite a job since we had so many things to send!
Friday, January 29th, Captain Brown, in uniform, presented Coach Rhodes and all the Middle School with a special award to say “thank you”. Captain Brown created an award with a flag flown over Iraq in a F16 fighter jet with a certificate and plaque placed in a custom made shadow box.
